Mos Def Is Arrested Outside of The VMA's
By: Old School Tribune
September 9, 2006
While performing an impromptu concert outside of MTV's Video Music Awards"
in New York City, the Mighty Mos Def was escorted off stage and
arrested by the NYPD.
Witnesses say that police officers shut down Mos' sound system and
aggressively removed him from the stage, citing him for performing without a
permit. Mos was performing "Katrina Clap," a song
about the victims of hurricane Katrina and the inadequate rescue efforts of
the U.S. government.
Regarded by many as one of the most talented MCs in Hip Hop, Mos has also
established himself as an accomplished actor, landing memorable roles in
films like "The Italian Job," "Brown Sugar," "Monster Ball," and
"16 Blocks." Mos was also nominated for an Emmy Award for his role
as Vivian Thomas in the HBO film "Something The Lord Made." Mos
is also the host of HBO's popular slam poetry program "Russell Simmons'
Def Poetry."
In spite of all of his acting success, Mos Def will always be a Real MC at
heart. Known for his freestyle skills, Mos has always addressed social
and political issues in his rhymes. He is scheduled to release his
final album on a major label, "Tru3 Magic," later this year.
